This is an interactive study day designed for those dietitians new to allergy or who need a basic level of knowledge. Attendance will enable dietitians to acquire the knowledge to meet the competencies set out by NICE and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health on the recognition, diagnosis, and management of cow’s milk allergy.
Aim
To meet the basic competencies set out by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health (RCPCH) Care Pathways for the recognition, diagnosis, and management of cow’s milk allergy (CMA) in infants and children.

● The difference between allergy and intolerance including basic immunology
● The prevalence of cow’s milk allergy
● Diagnosing the NICE way – which questions to ask
● Basics of diagnostic tests and how to interpret
● Diagnostic diets and choosing the right formula
● Food challenges and reintroductions
● Which foods to avoid for a milk-free diet and suitable replacements
● Introducing solids into the milk-allergic child and allergy prevention measures
● Vitamin deficiencies and faltering growth
